St. Cloud State 4, Minnesota 1: Mike Lee had perhaps his best collegiate game, making 42 saves for the Huskies as they move all the way into a tie for 2nd in the WCHA. Jared Festler had 2 goals. Cade Fairchild had the lone goal for Minnesota. Maybe if they wore maple leafs on their sweaters they would have scored more.

Lake Superior State 1, Notre Dame 1: In a matchup of two of the nation’s top goaltenders, neither disappointed. Notre Dame Frosh Mike Johnson saved 45 of the 46 shots he faced, while Lake State’s Brian Mahoney-Wilson, a Sharks draftee, made 26 saves.

North Dakota 3, Cornell 1: Brad Malone, Chris VandeVelde and Jason Gregoire scored for the Sioux, and Brad Eidsness had 15 saves. The Sioux are undefeated (8-0-1 according to the official Twitter account of Sioux hockey)

Wisconsin 4, Denver 3: Rhett Rakhshani had a goal and an assist, and Tyler Ruegsegger scored as well, but Denver couldn’t stop Wisconsin. The Badgers, better known for their defense, opened up the scoring as Ben Street, Craig Smith, Jordy Murray and Michael Davies all scored to get Wisconsin into 3rd in the WCHA.

I noticed that Lake Superior State and Notre Dame tied and I think that’s a shame. It’s my personal opinion that there should be no ties in any sports league because that defeated the purpose of playing the game. There should be a winner, and a loser, and therefore I suggest that NCAA hockey changes its lack of overtime rules.
